Based in Seattle, Blue Wave Political Partners, LLC was founded in 2014, evolving from H+P Political Compliance in order to accommodate the firm’s expansion into political fundraising. Lora Haggard and Jay Petterson have worked together since 2003. They were joined by Sue Jackson in 2007. Each brings a breadth of experience in accounting, budgeting, and federal committee compliance developed through treasury management on dozens of Democratic campaigns, committees, and organizations. With Kevin Geiger’s outstanding background in political fundraising, Blue Wave now offers fundraising services to Democratic campaigns and initiatives. Having each served in senior capacities on campaigns and committees, the partners of Blue Wave offer more than thirty years of cumulative political campaign fundraising and compliance experience. Blue Wave is also located in Georgia, Oregon, and North Carolina.
Lora Haggard has 18 years of political experience in election reporting and compliance along with 22 years of accounting experience, both nonprofit and corporate. Lora serves as Treasurer/CFO/Compliance for several federal candidates including Lucy McBath, Jennifer Wexton, Mikie Sherrill, and Stephanie Murphy and non-federal candidates such as Brian Frosh (MD AG), Ken Hodges (GA Court of Appeals), and Senator Gail Davenport (GA). In addition, Lora has acted as Treasurer/CFO for 3 presidential campaigns, and provided compliance for multiple state party committees, state and federal political committees, and 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) non-profit organizations.
Jay Petterson has 18 years of compliance, reporting and accounting experience. He has held positions with several political committees including John Edwards for President, Maria Cantwell for U.S. Senate, Patty Murray for U.S. Senate and administered various joint fundraising committees on behalf of federal candidates. Jay also worked in the compliance department at the Democratic National Committee for over three years, supervising compliance research. In 2012, Jay managed Sen. Maria Cantwell’s re-election campaign. Jay’s 2018 cycle clients included Nanette Barragan for Congress, Andrew Janz for Congress, Susie Lee for Congress, Xochitl Torres Small for New Mexico, Steven Horsford for Congress, Joe Morelle for Congress and Madeleine Dean for Congress.
Sue Jackson has over ten years of compliance, accounting and reporting experience. Sue has held positions with various federal, state and local committees including Bernie 2016, the NC Democratic Party, Alma Adams for Congress, Suzanne Bonamici for Congress, Citizens for Brendan Boyle, Katie Hill for Congress, and Josh Harder for Congress. She also brings with her over 12 years of experience in international business management and two years of experience as a budget analyst for United States Department of Commerce. Sue holds a B.A. in Government from The College of William and Mary.
Maura Hagerty Matthews is a seasoned Democratic fundraiser and strategist who has worked for over a decade to elect Democrats across the country. She has built national fundraising programs for many clients throughout her career including Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Maria Cantwell, Senator Max Baucus, and Representative Sean Patrick Maloney. Most recently, she served as Governor Steve Bullock’s finance director for his presidential campaign and previously led the fundraising efforts for his leadership PAC in the lead up to the campaign. She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Maura and her husband live in Washington, D.C.
Kevin Geiger focuses his attention on ensuring Blue Wave Political Partner clients have the necessary funds to win on Election Day by constructing successful fundraising strategies for political candidates and initiatives. His recent work includes fundraising for Senator Maria Cantwell, Washington Won’t Discriminate, State Representative Brady Pinero Walkinshaw, Seattle MayorJenny Durkan, Best Starts for Kids, Quality Seattle Preschool, and various other candidates and initiatives at the local, state, and federal level. Kevin received his Master’s in Political Management from the Carleton University in Ottawa and a Double Major in International Relations and Political Science with Honors from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. Outside of Blue Wave, Kevin serves on Victory Fund’s Campaign Board and the Historic South Downtown.
Chad Hunter has a long track record leading fundraising efforts for political campaigns. He has worked on dozens of Local, State, and Federal campaigns the last six election cycles in 11 different states. Most recently at Blue Wave he led the successful fundraising efforts on targeted races for Senator Mark Mullett and Senator Lisa Wellman, who was the only Democrat to defeat a Republican Senator in Washington during the 2016 cycle. He has also led the fundraising efforts for Washington Won’t Discriminate, Shannon Braddock’s Campaign for Seattle City Council, and Pete Holmes successful reelection campaign to Seattle City Attorney, which raised more than a City Attorney race in city history. Previously, he served as the Finance Director for Shenna Bellows’ U.S. Senate campaign in Maine, directing the national fundraising efforts for a first time candidate that resulted in raising $2.4 million. He previously served as the Finance Director for Rob Wallace’s campaign for Congress, which successfully raised over $1.2 million. Chad holds a B.A. in Marketing from Oklahoma State University.
Josie Olsen has worked at Blue Wave since 2014. She manages the compliance operations for several local and state races in Washington, California, and Hawaii, and assists with compliance for campaigns at federal levels around the country. Her recent work includes Friends of Maria Cantwell, People for Patty Murray, Washington Won’t Discriminate (No on I-1552), Marko Liias for State Senate, Ryan Calkins for Seattle Port Commission, and Institute for a Democratic Future. Previously, she worked for the American Red Cross as an AmeriCorp member on the Olympic Peninsula. She received her B.A. in Political Science with honors from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Annie joined Blue Wave in 2016 and manages compliance operations for numerous local Washington races. Her history of campaign work involves Friends of Mona Das, Vote Bill Ramos, Ryan Calkins for Seattle Port Commission, the Committee to Elect Janet St Clair and Friends of Lisa Callan. She graduated from the University of Washington in 2015 with degrees in Political Science, Communications, and Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies.
Liz Hall has over six years of experience working in Washington State politics. She’s currently the Finance Director for Congressman Derek Kilmer (WA-06) and serves as the Executive Director of Institute for a Democratic Future. Liz previously worked for the Washington State Senate, Congressman Denny Heck’s 2012 campaign, and the Washington Federation of State Employees. She graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Human Services.
Jamie Timmie has worked on several high profile campaigns around the country, most recently serving as the Compliance Director for Chris Koster’s campaign for governor in Missouri. She has assisted with compliance needs on state and federal races around the country. In 2014, she worked as the Deputy Compliance Director on Michelle Nunn’s Senate campaign in her home state of Georgia. She has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Georgia.
Shayne Thoman joined Blue Wave in January 2016. Prior to joining Blue Wave, Shayne worked as a Conflicts Specialist for a multi-national law firm in Kansas City. He currently helps to manage compliance operations for various state and federal committees and serves as the Finance Director for NC Deputy Democratic Leader Rep. Robert Reives as well as NC Democratic House Caucus Chair, Rep. Graig Meyer. Shayne holds his Bachelor’s Degree with distinction in Political Science from the University of Kansas.
Sara joined Blue Wave in 2019 with over seven years of fundraising experience. Previously, Sara worked in Washington, DC for National Partnership for Women & Families and People for the American Way, and later in fundraising for nonprofits in Seattle. She graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics & Government and a minor in Sociology.
Jenn Resnick joined Blue Wave in February 2019 and serves as a Compliance Associate to various federal campaigns and PACs. Prior to joining Blue Wave, Jenn served as the Finance Director for Lucy McBath’s successful campaign for Congress in 2018. She has also served as the Finance Director for Stacey Evans’ campaign for Governor of Georgia and Deputy Finance Director for John Wisniewski’s Gubernatorial campaign in her home state of New Jersey. Jenn holds a B.A. in History from The College of New Jersey.
Marisa Mark joined Blue Wave in April of 2019 and currently oversees treasury operations for several campaigns. Prior to joining Blue Wave, Marisa worked as a Payroll Compliance Specialist for a pension trust fund. She graduated from Berry College in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a minor in Business Administration.
John joined Blue Wave in June 2019 and currently assists the compliance needs of a number of North Carolina state campaigns. Prior to starting at Blue Wave, John worked as a Finance and Compliance Associate at the North Carolina Democratic Party in Raleigh from June 2017 to December 2018. John holds a Bachelor’s Degree with honors and highest distinction in Public Policy and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (’19).
Cody joined Blue Wave in October 2018. Prior to joining Blue Wave, Cody worked in finance and banking for three years in Southern Virginia. He currently serves as a Compliance Associate to various federal campaigns and PACs. Cody holds his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology & Criminal Justice from Averett University.
Rose Sidhu joined Blue Wave in April of 2019 as a fellow and now works as a finance assistant for Rep. Derek Kilmer and Sen. Christine Rolfes. She is a recent graduate of the University of Washington with a B.S. in political science. Before joining Blue Wave, Rose used a small grant from the UW to conduct and present research on the 2020 census’ citizenship question and also worked in various law firms before deciding to move over to politics – and we’re so glad she did!
Japna joined Blue Wave in February 2020 as a finance assistant. Previously, she worked as a senate staffer for Senator David Frockt and went on to work for the Washington Senate Democratic Campaigns where she managed and operated fundraising events. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a double minor in Human Rights and Law, Justice, and Society from the University of Washington in 2019. While she was in school she completed over a year of research conducting an ethnographic study that examined race relations in Nafplion, Greece. She has a passion for local government, improving the lives of underrepresented communities, and womens’ rights.
